The Adrift series was made specifically for my solo exhibition Hidden, Unseen, Unknown in October 2013 at the Kingston Arts Centre G3 Artspace in Melbourne. They are intaglio prints on cotton rag paper. They are made using predominantly aquatint and etching techniques. They are both 24 x 24 cm (image size) and are both editions of 10.
The idea behind the Adrift series was to embody the exact meaning behind the title, to relay an exact emotion I was feeling at the time, a feeling of floating without control, of feeling as though you’re lacking aim, direction and stability. The directional marks in the background of Adrift are used to emphasise this state of feeling.
Adrift II aims to have the feeling of slow movement. This work was made with the idea to display a feeling of being anchored and yet at the same time a sense of floating and moving with a lack of control, yet not helplessly but serenely.
